Using Closet Organizers
After watching the clothes, luggage, shoes, and dirty laundry start to fall out of the closet into our bedroom, we decided it was time for a change. We had cleaned the closet again and again, each time sorting through our posessions and deciding on many to discard. However, within weeks, the mess always returns. This time something different needed to be done. The Original Setup
Our closet started with the traditional setup seen in so many messy closets. A clothing rack that reaches from one side of the closet to the other with a large shelf above it. Nothing special. Nothing effective. Finding the Appropriate Shelving
The types of shelving are endless. If you do your homework, you can actually find a huge variety of styles, colors, and prices. We searched online and in local home improvement stores. Making it Fit
Measuring every angle of your closet is crucial! Measure from front to back, side to side, floor to ceiling, door openings, etc. Make sure to take into account any trim that may against your walls. Creating the Closet
Now that you have the measurements, decide what type of closets you really need. We needed a place for shoes, several drawers, a small hanging rack, and very large shelving for blankets and luggage.
Instead of making the decision at the store, we brought home a catalog that displayed each item that was available and its measurements.
We measured, we measured again, and we tried to find the best configuration for our small closet. Putting the Closet into Place
Once we decided on the type of shelving that would fit into our closet the best, the rest was pretty simple. We purchased premade shelves that went together pretty quickly. The entire closet only took a few hours to set up and put into place. The Results
Amazing. The closet is still organized, even after several weeks. Our bedroom no longer has the clutter that wouldn't fit into the closet. Keeping it neat is much easier as well. We no longer have to search for clothes every morning. They are all right at our fingertips. |
