Countdown to Spring
Spring is in the air!! My children and I have been starting to feel the Cabin Fever that sneaks into your home this time of year. When will Spring come?
When can we play outside without layers of clothing?
Where are the flowers? One of our favorite Spring traditions is our very own Countdown to the first day of Spring. This year, the first day of Spring will fall on March 20.
Two weeks (14 days) before the first day of spring, we sit down and list all of the things we love about Spring.
Flowers
Green Grass
Animals
Bubbles Outside
Garden Planting
Playing in the Warm Sun
Easter & Easter Eggs
~and so many more!! We then cut pictures that represent each of these things out of old magazines.
The pictures are then pasted onto strips of pastel construction paper.
We create a paper chain out of these strips - one for each day left until Spring arrives.
The chain is hung in our den so we can see it as we play.
Each morning, we cut one piece of the chain off, so that it gets shorter as Spring gets closer. Waiting for Spring is hard, especially when you are trapped inside by snow and freezing temperatures. This Countdown to Spring chain helps make the waiting easier by reminding us every day of the wonders that will be arriving soon! |
